In Nepal normally the monsoon season begins on June 10 and ends on September 23 every year. By June 18-19, monsoon-triggered rainfall will take place across the country.
And the Nepalese celebrate the ropain festival (Dhan Diwas) on 15th Ashad (June-July) of Nepali calendar every year. This festival is celebrated to mark the start of ropain (rice planting) and also seen as a good fortune for a good harvesting season.
Nepal is agricultural country. Thus agriculture is the major occupation of the people living in Nepal, main enterprise and the major lifestyle of the country. Irrigation, improved seeds, fertilizers, etc. should be made available in time by the agriculture relative origination and Ministry of Agriculture Nepal. New modern technical advice and market facilities should to arrange with systematic Government. The government should support the agriculture more.
Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development make stagey for enlargement the agriculture sector in Nepal. Agriculture provides employment opportunities to around 65 percent of the total population and contributes about 27 percent in the GDP. Therefore, the development of agriculture and livestock sector is main role for the development of national economy. The ministry bears overall responsibility for the growth and development of agriculture and livestock sector.
Farmers along with their Families, neighbors, friends other locals together celebrate this festival. The Day of Ashad 15 is also seen as a key of tourist attraction for tourists and other people. You can also celebrate this festival along with the local people.
Traditionally, female are involved in planting rice plant and male plowing field. Farmers celebrate this with joy as they invite their neighbors to play in the mud, thrown mud at each other and sing ‘Asare geet’ and dance a traditional folk song that mark out the joy and pain of the farmer living. There is a practice of eating Dahi Chiura (yogurt and beaten rice); drink a special kind of local drink called ‘chyang’ and local alcohols.
If you are interested in planting rice, make sure you visit the outskirts of Lubhu, Lamatar, Chapagaun, Bungamati, Bhaktapur, Thimi, Taudaha, Kirtipur and many others nearest villages of Kathmandu for the Ropain (Rice Planting), Dahi-Chiura, Ashad 15 – Festival.
They might even offer you some Dahi Chiura (yogurt and beaten rice), chyang, and Pan masala, chocolates etc during the Ropain (Rice Planting) festival event.
